Synopsis

Three people. Simon, the out- of- form scribe, enraged by the betrayal of a loved one, Samyukta, the altruist who has to make a life changing decision, and Satta, the mysterious 'seventh' man who has a past. As their stories seemingly run in parallel, their lives touch one another in more ways than one.

“After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box”

A story that spans three cities and that which unravels love, greed, power and ambition, the spillages of the a larger game - with a conglomerate and a political party, all on the run- these three characters unwittingly become a part of. Who is the mastermind? Who are the pawns?

Will Simon, Samyukta and Satta surmount their inner demons and come face-to-face with each other? The Book of Pawns travels through characters, their loves, in time and events back and forth, to give you the right twists, in a thriller-like narrative that is not short of intrigue.

The theme of the book is good. In my humble opinion, if you tone done the intensity, it might read better. But a lot of people have liked your book, so maybe there is nothing to reconsider!

This is exactly what I always say - you should be original, not in terms of the story line but the word usage. You seem to be falling into the genre which most Indian authors fall into -'the wannabe Booker Award writer'.
Dont lose heart with my review - try to stand out from the crowd. If your book ever gets published you will be sharing the space at a bookstore or digitally with thousands of other books which look like their authors have mastered the English dictionary.
It takes guts to write a story so kudos to that - and don't stop perfecting yourself.
Also didn't quite understand the use of words within the asterisks in the 1st chapter.

Enjoyed reading the stories....the last one though is a little difficult to understand. Would certainly want to read the rest too.

The first thing that came into my mind when I began reading the book was - Gone Girl. The narration is very similar, but there are more characters. I have rated it as 3 stars because I could not guess where this story was heading. If I get to read more chapters in future, I will delete this review and write a fresh one. Best of luck to the authors.

The sentences seem to be too short for creating a feeling of engagement in the mind. Literary aspect seems to be missing.

Wow! What a book!. I just love the way the narration has been made. The choice of vocabulary is extremely good. The narrative style is too good, that it makes one literally visualise as one reads it.The pace at which the story moves is applaudable.I am too eager to read the entire book , once it gets published.

The first two chapters set up the premise for something big very well, while I felt a little lost in Chapter 3 which may very well unravel something bigger in the subsequent chapters. The authors have something big in their hands. Looking forward to the rest of the book!

Has the potential to be a 'Bloody Good Book' provided the flow of thoughts aren't interrupted too many times, many a times within the same sentence! Could also do with a little less description of the characters though! As readers, we should be left to form our own opinions through the characters' actions and not be led by the authors' views . Good going so far.

The story jumps at you right from the start, drawing you in with some great characters and a twisted plot that has yet to take shape! The writers have done a tremendous job of holding the readers' attention.
Just one suggestion: Go easy on adjectives, let the character reveal himself through the story.

Good Luck :)

Very intriguing. Can't wait to read more. Also, little phrases really draw you in and make you stop and think for e.g. "Not having pretensions is a virtue. Having no pretensions at all, well, can be a vice."
Additionally, the characters are described so well. A truly engaging read.

I cannot express my feelings right now. Is it because of how real the fiction is or can be? Is it because some of it reminds me of some of things that happened to me? Or is it because the authors have found a way of narrating something which is a concoction of reality and fiction at its utmost best? it would be hard to describe the level of emotional details their stories portray, the reactions of a human subconscious mind so much to extent of telling the reader, did this really to you?

About the author

Shubhra Rishi Follow

As my profile suggests, I smile a lot, and that means, a LOT! I have often heard people complaining about my uneven teeth and how they should have been pearly white! Jokes apart, this is my first book with two of my lovely friends. Hope you like it!

Shantheri Mallaya Follow

I laugh loud and clear when I have to, have a good sense of humor which tends to get a bit warped too ;-). On a serious note, love capturing nuances, as is reflected in my first full fledged attempt at writing with a chilled out duo.

Vinay Kumaar Follow

Love is my language. Language is my love.
